Penetrative Damp

Penetrative damp, also known as lateral damp or rain penetration, is a form of moisture problem that occurs when water enters a building through external walls or roofs. This type of damp is different from rising damp, which occurs when water is drawn up from the ground through the building’s foundations.

Penetrative damp can be caused by a number of factors, including damage to the roof or guttering, cracked or porous external walls, and poor window or door seals. It can also occur due to poor ventilation or condensation issues, which can cause excess moisture to accumulate in the building.
